Star
Wars Weekends at Disney World, Orlando, is quite possibly the biggest event I
have ever attended, at least an event relating to the geek community. The weekends
are held annually in May and June at Hollywood Studios, one of the four main parks
in Disney World. If you have never been to Florida in May or June, here
are some words of warning for you; be ready to get wet. When it rains, it
pours.
The fondest memory I have of Star
Wars Weekends has to be the day it drenched my family at Walt Disney World. It
started off as any other day in Florida in the middle of June; hot and humid.
There was enough steamy humidity and grey clouds in the sky to know it was
going to rain; this was my first time in Florida so I had no clue what I was in
for. After the usual routine of eating Mickey’s buffet breakfast at the resort,
including whatever free fruits and snacks they had, we were off for the day’s
magic filled adventure. After getting on
one of the many brightly colored shuttle buses that went to each resort and
park we watched the ominous clouds roll in quickly, and eventually got off at
the Magic Kingdom around midday. It had gotten noticeably darker by the time we
got into the bustling town square area, and as we walked towards Cinderella's Castle,
it started to lightly rain. Since most parts of the park shut down if it's raining,
we decided to head back to the comfort of our resort. We didn't want to waste a
day at Disney, and some of us were already grumbling as our moods deteriorated
from the gloomy rain.
As we were dragging ourselves back to
our resort, it felt like every step we took the rainfall increased. By the time
we got to the underpass of Mickey’s railroad, it was a torrential downpour.
Although everyone was miserable because they were soaked to the bone, something
caught my eye and I could not help myself as I started to laugh. In the middle
of the downpour, someone from the Disney staff had left a bright yellow
"Wet Floor" sign on Main Street. It had made the entire day worth it.
You did a nice job of telling the diference between regular storms and Florida rainstorms. "every step we took the rainfall increased" is exactly how it feels. And the wet floor sign was great, to add in some humor, on an otherwise gloomy day was great!
ReplyDeleteGreat job telling us about how bad the rainstorm can be during the May and June in Florida. I wanted to know a little bit more about what star war weekend was but overall I love the title of your blog. It definitely caught my attention.
ReplyDeleteI went to Florida in June when I was in 6th grade, we ended up going to Universal Studios instead though. I didn't remember it raining while I was there, but IL do remember all my clothes in my suitcase being damp because it was so incredibly humid! I knew exactly what you were going to be talking about when reading the first paragraph and wasn't lost. I thought the last paragraph had the most descriptive words like torrential and soaked to the bone. I thought it was hilarious about the wet floor sign too. I did not find any spelling errors, so great job!
ReplyDeleteAs I read your story, I felt like I was there for each step, I could see it. I didn't find any typo's great essay!
ReplyDeleteYour story was really fun to read! I like how in the story your day is getting worse and worse cuz of the rain and by the end when it's raining your laughing...It was very good!
ReplyDeleteThat was a very good descriptive and detail of Disneyland and how your trip was almost ruined. Being miserably disappointed yet not, it was nicely done.
ReplyDeleteGreat essay, really like the funny ending. Can really just see you getting soaked by this storm. No errors that I noticed, very well written. Good job
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your essay although I may have liked more detail about the Star Wars part of your weekend. My mind immediately wandered to how awesome it must have been to be at Disney during an event like that. There is nothing quite like a Florida rainstorm, I love it. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI felt like i couldve been there, and i actually really enjoyed this story! i have never been to an event like that and i think it would be a neat experience. i didnt find any spelling error good job!
ReplyDeleteVery nice comparative. Everyone needs to find a little humor in their down times and you did well. Liked how you kept the essay together from start to finish and stuck to your topic. A little more about the shuttle would have been cool.
